Setting an image to 150 DPI
DPI is metadata that tells printers and layout software how large to render an image; it does not change the pixels. This preset writes 150 DPI into the JPEG or PNG header without re-encoding the picture, so there is no quality loss and the file size barely changes. Pair it with the resize tool when a form asks for a physical size at 150 DPI, and use the DPI checker to confirm what a file currently carries.
Who needs this
Print orders, passport and visa portals that demand 150 DPI, publishers, and anyone whose upload was rejected for the wrong resolution.
Change DPI
Portals often demand 200 or 300 DPI. See the current DPI of your file and write a new value into the JPG or PNG header — the pixels stay untouched.
How it works
- Add images by dropping, choosing or pasting them.
- Adjust the options — everything previews on your device.
- Run, compare before and after, then download or share.
Frequently asked questions
Does changing to 150 DPI make the image sharper?
No. Sharpness comes from the number of pixels. DPI only sets how large those pixels print, so a 600 pixel image at 150 DPI prints smaller, not sharper.
Which formats keep the DPI value?
JPEG (in the JFIF or EXIF header) and PNG (as pHYs) store it. WebP and AVIF do not, so convert to JPEG or PNG first.
The portal still says my image is not 150 DPI.
Some systems read EXIF rather than JFIF. The tool writes both where possible; re-saving a file in a messaging app can strip them, so upload the downloaded file directly.
How do I get a specific size in centimetres at 150 DPI?
Use the resize tool with centimetres or inches selected and the DPI set to 150: it computes the pixel dimensions and writes the resolution in one step.
Does changing DPI change my pixels?
No. DPI is metadata that tells printers how large to print. The tool rewrites only the JPG or PNG header; the pixels stay byte-identical.
Which DPI do portals ask for?
Most government and exam portals ask for 200 or 300 DPI. Choose the preset or type a custom value.
Can I see the current DPI of a file?
Yes. The card shows the DPI read from the file as soon as you add it, or Unknown if none is stored.
