Why would I want PDF instead of CR3?
Compatibility and size. PDF opens where CR3 may not, and modern formats can be much smaller for the same look. The compare slider shows both side by side.
Is transparency kept?
Yes when PDF supports it (PNG, WebP, AVIF, ICO). JPG and BMP do not, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick.
