When you need PNG instead of WebP

WebP is what most websites serve today, so a saved image often arrives as .webp and then fails in Photoshop versions before 23.2, in many office suites, in print shops and in upload fields that only list PNG and JPG. This converter decodes the WebP, including transparency and animation stills, and writes a lossless PNG: every pixel is kept and transparent areas stay transparent.

PNG files are larger than WebP, typically two to four times. If the destination accepts JPG and the picture is a photo without transparency, the WebP to JPG preset gives a much smaller file. For logos and screenshots, PNG is the right choice.

Where this is accepted

Design and office software, print services, upload fields that list PNG only, documents and presentations, and anywhere transparency must survive.

Converting WebP to PNG

Drop a WebP file and it is decoded in your browser, then re-encoded as PNG with the quality and background you choose. Transparency is preserved when the target format supports it and flattened onto a colour when it does not. Camera orientation is applied so the result is never sideways, and EXIF data is dropped, which protects your location and shrinks the file. Batches of up to 50 files convert together and download as a ZIP, with no upload, no queue and no account.

Who needs this

People sharing iPhone or Android photos with systems that only accept PNG, web developers moving to modern formats, designers exchanging assets, and anyone who needs WebP files to open on another device.

Convert image

Convert between every common image format, including HEIC photos from iPhone and TIFF scans. Pick a quality, flatten transparency onto a color, and optionally cap the output size.

How it works

  1. Add images by dropping, choosing or pasting them.
  2. Adjust the options — everything previews on your device.
  3. Run, compare before and after, then download or share.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting WebP to PNG reduce quality?

Converting into a lossless format keeps every pixel. Converting into a lossy one re-encodes at the quality you set; 92 percent is visually identical for photos and still far smaller than the original.

Why would I want PNG instead of WebP?

Compatibility and size. PNG opens where WebP may not, and modern formats can be much smaller for the same look. The compare slider shows both side by side.

Is transparency kept?

Yes when PNG supports it (PNG, WebP, AVIF, ICO). JPG and BMP do not, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick.

Can I convert many WebP files at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 files, run once, and download them as a ZIP. Each file is converted in a background worker so the page stays responsive.

Which formats are supported?

Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG, TIFF and HEIC/HEIF from iPhone. Output: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP and ICO.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?

Drop the .heic files, keep JPG selected and press Convert. HEIC is decoded on your device with a WebAssembly decoder; nothing is uploaded.

What happens to transparency?

PNG, WebP and AVIF keep it. JPG and BMP have no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose.
